Mumbai's brief dry spell came to an end on Saturday as rhe city woke up to overcast skies as several pockets experienced light to moderate rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Santacruz observatory recorded 7.2 mm of rainfall, while the Colaba observatory remained dry.
The return of rain also lowered the day's maximum temperature to 29.5°C in the suburbs and 29.7°C in South Mumbai. The IMD has placed Mumbai and Thane under a yellow alert for the next 48 hours, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Raigad on orange alert
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Raigad district, warning of very heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday. Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning are also likely to accompany the showers, the forecast cautioned.

In its advisory, the weather department suggested that people avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, or either carry umbrellas or raincoats while stepping out.
Although September usually brings retreating showers, the monsoon remains active this year across Konkan and Mumbai. As the city braces for yet another spell of rain, both authorities and residents are being urged to stay cautious and put safety first.
