A couple was brutally attacked by six men near Pune's Pashan Circle in a road rage case on April 18, police said. The man sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the ICU, while his wife suffered internal injuries.
According to a complaint filed at the Chaturshringi police station, the victims, Ketaki Bhujbal and Amaldev PVK Raman, were returning home from Mukund Nagar around 11 pm after dining with friends. As they drove through the Pashan Circle area, their car was repeatedly obstructed by two men on a motorbike, reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
“When my husband honked, the duo went aggressive, and started banging on our car window, and blocked us for nearly 20 meters,” Ketaki said in an Instagram post that has since gone viral. “When we stopped to talk, he suddenly attacked my husband.”
The situation escalated as four more men joined the duo. Four of them assaulted the man using stones and sticks, while two held him down. Ketaki, who tried to protect her husband, was kicked in the stomach and struck in the face.
The group also vandalised their car, breaking the windows and headlights with large stones. One of the stones was hurled into the vehicle, injuring both Ketaki and Amaldev.
“We somehow managed to flee, but Amal was bleeding heavily. His nose was fractured, and his ear was injured. I have a swollen abdomen, confirmed by a sonography report,” Ketaki said.
The couple made their way to her brother’s house, who then took them to the police station and later to Sai Shree Hospital in Aundh, where Amaldev was admitted to the ICU.
“People just stood there recording videos. They saw this as an entertainment I guess but none of them came and helped. What is wrong with humanity ? Who is safe and where ? They could so easily hit a lady. Who are these people? Why is this so common in our country?" her post read.
“I used to be a confident, outspoken woman. Now, I’m scared to even leave the house. I check the doors a hundred times a day. This has been a traumatic experience,” she said.
An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 118(1), 126(2), 115(2), 352, 324(4), and 3(5), along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act. Three of those accused in the case were arrested, News18 reported.
