A Friday night movie outing turned into a nightmare for a young techie and his wife in Chinchwad, Pune, when a screening of The Conjuring: Last Rites at a local multiplex ended in a violent brawl, The Times of India reported.
The couple, who had gone to enjoy the horror film with family, got into a dispute with fellow audience members over loud narration during the show, which escalated into an assault, leaving both the techie and his wife injured.
According to a complaint filed on Sunday, the trouble began when a man seated just behind the techie kept giving a loud running commentary of the horror film to his wife.
The techie, who was accompanied by his wife and sister, politely requested him to stop spoiling the suspense. While the initial request seemed to have calmed things down, tensions flared up again after the interval.
The accused, identified as a resident of Vallabhnagar, Pimpri, allegedly began hurling abuses at the techie during intermission. Matters escalated quickly when the accused suddenly attacked him.
The victim, a 29-year-old tech professional from Bijlinagar, said that he was grabbed by his shirt collar, dragged, and repeatedly kicked on his face, stomach, and hand, according to the report.
When the techie’s wife stepped in to shield him, the accused and his wife allegedly turned on her as well, verbally abusing and physically assaulting her. Both victims sustained injuries and later received treatment at a nearby hospital.
Sub-inspector S J Mohite of Chinchwad police confirmed that a formal complaint was lodged on Sunday. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the Vallabhnagar couple under sections 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 115 (causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "We are searching for them. Further investigations are under way," Mohite was quoted by TOI as saying.
