A high-speed Porsche car crashed on the Western Express Highway near Mumbai’s Jogeshwari, leaving the driver critically injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the Porsche was racing with a BMW at a speed of around 150 kmph when the accident occurred.
The accident occurred around 2 am on Thursday, near the Jogeshwari Metro station, when the Porsche collided forcefully with a road divider. The impact was so intense that the car was almost completely mangled.
“The Porsche and BMW appeared to be racing, and suddenly, the Porsche lost control and smashed into the divider,” one witness was quoted by India Today as saying.
At the time of the incident, there were two people inside the Porsche. Although the vehicle’s safety airbags deployed, the driver sustained serious injuries. Immediate action by passersby and police personnel ensured that the injured man was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Mumbai police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain whether the crash was indeed a result of reckless racing or if other factors contributed to the accident.
In a separate road mishap on Monday, a car veered off the approach ramp of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and plunged into the sea. The driver, 29-year-old Frashogar Batiwalla from Tardeo, allegedly lost control under the influence of alcohol.
He survived with minor injuries after being spotted clinging to rocks by two Maharashtra Security Force personnel, who rescued him from the submerged vehicle.
