The Delhi government will host a major public event at Thyagaraj Stadium on September 17 to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the senior officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the function, which will also see the inauguration of several new health and welfare projects, Hindustan Times reported.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to take stock of the arrangements. The celebration will also mark the launch of “Seva Pakhwada” (Service Fortnight), a two-week-long campaign that will continue until Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Officials said the idea is to focus on public service and the rollout of citizen-oriented schemes during this period.
At the event, 101 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be inaugurated to expand healthcare access in Delhi. In addition, five government hospitals will get new blocks with facilities like trauma centres, children’s wards, and specialised units. These upgrades will be made at Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital, Shri Dada Dev Hospital, and Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital.
As per the report, 150 dialysis units will become operational across six hospitals, including Burari Government Hospital, Jag Parvesh Chander Hospital, Baba Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Janakpuri Super Specialty Hospital, and Ambedkar Nagar Hospital.
The government is also planning to operationalise the Savitri Bai Phule Home for Senior Citizens in Paschim Vihar, providing better care for the elderly. To improve safety, 24 Quick Response Vehicles will be deployed at fire-prone spots across the city. These smaller vehicles are designed to reach congested areas faster than traditional fire tenders, which will reduce response time during emergencies.
CM Gupta on September 2 had announced that 75 new projects and services covering health, education, sanitation, housing, transport, and civic facilities would be rolled out as part of the Seva Pakhwada. Gupta emphasised that the initiative would focus on the implementation of projects directly benefiting citizens, rather than being a symbolic exercise.
