PM Modi's Bhopal visit: 15,000 women in sindoor-coloured sarees, all-women security, and more

Around 15,000 women dressed in sindoor (vermillion) coloured sarees will greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on May 31. According to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), this initiative is a mark of gratitude for ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s strong military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

The event is part of a large women’s conference that also celebrates the 300th birth anniversary of Lok Mata Ahilya Bai Holkar, a respected 18th-century ruler of the Malwa region known for her leadership and service to the people, Hindustan Times reported.

According to the BJP’s women’s wing, 15,000 women volunteers from across 1,300 local units (mandals) have been selected to welcome the Prime Minister. These women will wear specially provided sarees in the symbolic sindoor shade, representing both respect and strength.

“The vermillion sarees are a tribute to the PM Modi and our armed forces, who gave befitting reply to the terrorism following the Pahalgam incident. The sarees will be provided by the party to the women,” HT quoted Madhya Pradesh minister of state Krishna Gaur as saying.

Also, all security duties and event arrangements at the helipad and venue will be handled by women officers. IPS officer Sonali Mishra will lead the overall security operations. A total of 47 women officers will be responsible for VIP protection, traffic management, stage arrangements, and crowd control, a first-of-its-kind effort.

“The women police personnel will accompany the security detail at the helipad and manage traffic, stage and crowd management. For the first time, 47 women officers will lead the VIP security,” a senior officer of police was quoted by HT as saying.

In addition, over 600 women from self-help groups will manage food and water services during the event. “Even the food and water services will be provided by over 600 women of Self-Help Groups. The Prime Minister is coming to Bhopal on May 31 to participate in the Women Empowerment Conference, and all the arrangements for the program, including his welcome and honour, will be taken care of by Nari Shakti. This women's conference is dedicated to women empowerment. This conference will create a new history,” BJP state president VD Sharma said.
