Noida Police have arrested the man who sent a chilling bomb threat to Mumbai ahead of Anant Chaturdashi, claiming the city would be rocked by multiple blasts involving 400 kg of RDX.
Police said the accused, Ashwin Kumar Supra, a native of Bihar, was tracked down in Noida’s Sector 113 using the phone and SIM card through which the threats were sent. Both have been seized, and he is being taken to Mumbai for further interrogation.
According to officials, Ashwini sent the threat on Mumbai Police’s official WhatsApp number, warning that vehicles laden with explosives had been planted across the city and that the attack could kill “up to one crore people.”
In the detailed message, he also claimed that 34 “human bombs” were placed in Mumbai, that 14 Pakistani terrorists had already infiltrated the city, and that the attacks were being carried out in the name of a Pakistan-based outfit called “Lashkar-e-Jihadi.”
Mumbai Police immediately launched a probe, placing the city on high alert. A mobile phone has been recovered from the accused, who initially described himself as an astrologer. Cyber units and anti-terror squads were also roped in to trace the origin of the message.
Police sources said the threat was taken very seriously due to its timing during the festival season. Investigations into the motive and background of the accused are ongoing.
