Noida man finds glove inside sandwich ordered via Zomato, company says 'absolutely shocked'

A resident in Noida recently claimed that found a plastic glove inside a sandwich he ordered through food delivery platform Zomato from a well-known restaurant chain in the city.

The incident took place on August 26, and he immediately created alarm over how food is being prepared and handled in restaurants.

The customer, identified as Satish Sarawagi, shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), where he posted two photos. In one picture, he showed the sandwich that allegedly contained the glove, and in another, he displayed the order details from the restaurant chain Salad Days. Tagging both Zomato and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Sarawagi called the matter a “serious hygiene concern” and urged authorities to take it seriously.

According to him, he had ordered two sandwiches through the Zomato app, one broccoli, corn and basil pesto sandwich and another smoked cottage cheese and pepper sandwich. When he opened the order, he was shocked to find a disposable plastic glove wrapped inside one of the sandwiches. “I ordered a sandwich and found a glove inside the food! This is unacceptable and a serious hygiene concern. Please investigate and respond ASAP,” he wrote in his X post.

In a follow-up post tagging Zomato, he added, “It was scary, we are still shocked. No action by ZomatoCare yet.”

Zomato soon responded to his post, saying they were “absolutely shocked” and understood how upsetting the experience must have been. “Hi Satish, we’re absolutely shocked to hear about this. We can’t begin to imagine how upsetting this must have been for you. Please allow us some time so that we can take this up with the restaurant partner, we’ll get in touch with you to discuss this further,” said Zomato.

Later, Salad Days, the restaurant chain involved, also issued a statement. The company said it had immediately launched a detailed investigation with its quality assurance team and flagged the concerned kitchen for urgent review.

“We’re taking this matter extremely seriously and have immediately launched a thorough investigation with our quality assurance team. This kitchen has been flagged for urgent review. Please DM us your contact details so we can coordinate directly and ensure this is resolved properly,” said Salad Days.
