A 19-year-old student from Maharashtra, who had secured a top rank in the national medical entrance exam, died by suicide on the very day he was to leave for university. The tragedy has cast a pall over his village in Chandrapur district.
The victim, Anurag Anil Borkar from Nawargaon, had achieved an exceptional 99.99 percentile in the NEET UG 2025 examination. His outstanding performance earned him an All India Rank of 1475 in the highly competitive OBC category.
According to a report by NDTV, Anurag was scheduled to travel to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to begin his MBBS studies. His family was preparing for his departure when the incident occurred.
Police confirmed that the young student was found hanging at his family home. The tragedy unfolded before he could embark on his journey to higher education. A suicide note was recovered from the scene by investigating officers. While the full contents have not been officially released, police sources provided a chilling detail, as cited by NDTV.
The note allegedly stated that Anurag did not want to become a doctor. This revelation has added a layer of profound sorrow to the incident, highlighting a potential gulf between external achievement and internal desire.
The Navargaon Police have registered a case and are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The recovery of the note is a central part of their enquiries.
Anurag, who lived with his family in Sindewahi taluka, was described as a bright student whose future seemed assured. His near-perfect NEET score had positioned him for a coveted seat in a medical college, a goal pursued by thousands of aspirants across India.
As the investigation continues, the family and community are left to grapple with the loss of a promising young life.
