The most-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is scheduled to launch by the close of September, offering an additional air travel choice for residents of Mumbai.
Located in Ulwe near Panvel, NMIA will serve as Mumbai's second international airport after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
IndiGo, Akasa Air first to begin operations
According to a report by The Free Press Journal, two carriers, IndiGo and Akasa Air, are the first airlines confirmed to fly from NMIA.
India's largest airline, IndiGo, is committed to leading the operations at NMIA. It will begin with 18 daily flights serving over 15 domestic cities, with rapid scaling planned. By March 2026, the airline expects to operate 79 daily flights, including 14 international routes. This is projected to exceed 100 daily flights by November 2026.
Akasa Air is also a key partner, leveraging NMIA for its own growth strategy. The airline will start with over 100 weekly domestic departures and plans to increase this to over 300 domestic and 50 international weekly flights by November 2026. This strategy focuses on providing "deep connectivity" from tier-II cities.
With major launch commitments from IndiGo and Akasa Air, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is poised to quickly become one of India's busiest aviation hubs.
Looking for flights from NMIA? Here’s why you can’t book yet
If you're searching for flights to or from NMIA and it's not showing up in booking systems, it's likely because commercial operations haven't officially started yet. Airlines typically release flight schedules closer to the launch date, so you should regularly check airline websites and ticketing platforms for updates. Once commercial services begin, NMIA will be listed alongside other major airports in booking systems.
