The much-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro network in Bengaluru, which connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (RV Road) in South Bengaluru to Bommasandra in the southeast, is currently undergoing final safety inspections and is tentatively scheduled for the second week of August, after many delays, The Hindu reported.
The Yellow Line was originally set to open in 2021. However, the project has been missing deadlines multiple times, most recently missing a revised launch target of June 2025.
The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is currently conducting detailed checks, which started on July 22 and will continue until July 25.
The Yellow Line is nearly 18.82 km long and has been designed to enhance travel in the city, particularly for individuals working in and around Electronic City, one of India’s major IT hubs. The line also aims to reduce traffic congestion at key chokepoints like Silk Board Junction.
What is being inspected?
As part of the CMRS inspection, a team is assessing the safety and structural soundness of the tracks, the condition of elevated metro sections, and signalling systems. The safety and readiness of each metro station will also be reviewed. On July 25, the CMRS is scheduled to inspect the Operations Control Centre at Baiyappanahalli depot, which will manage train services on this line.
After these inspections, if everything is cleared, the Yellow Line is expected to officially open to the public in August 2025.
Around 25,000 passengers are expected to travel by Yellow Line daily once it opens with three trains in August. However, ridership will likely rise to two lakh once full-scale operations begin next year, Deccan Chronicle reported.
Connecting Bengaluru’s key zones
The Yellow Line will have 16 stations in total. It will link key residential and commercial areas including BTM Layout, HSR Layout, Bommanahalli, and Electronic City, home to top firms like Infosys and Biocon.

Grand inauguration
Although there is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate the Yellow Line, nothing has been officially confirmed. According to senior officials at BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited), both the central and state governments have been informed, and preparations are ongoing, The Hindu reported.
To mark the launch, BMRCL has hired a private agency to produce a promotional documentary featuring drone shots, station visuals, and key highlights of the corridor. This film is expected to be shown during the inauguration ceremony.
