Nagpur Police on Wednesday arrested the 'mastermind' identified as Faheem Khan who is believed to have incited the violence in the city. Khan, 38, who is a local politician from the Minority Democratic Party, will be in custody till Friday.

Khan’s arrest came just hours after his name was officially included in an FIR registered at Ganeshpeth Police Station. The cops are also examining whether there were more people involved in aiding Fahim Khan.

According to the India Today citing senior police officials, video evidence suggest Khan’s provocative speech directly contributed to the escalation of tensions, triggering clashes between communities in the area.

Two days after Nagpur witnessed violence in which 34 police personnel and three locals were injured, Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal on Wednesday said that the violence was pre-planned.

Fahim Khan had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Nagpur constituency against senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, but lost by a huge margin of over 6.5 lakhs votes.
