Mumbai is in for another rainy day as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to maintain an orange alert on Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the city. This comes as the suburbs of Mumbai were drenched for a second consecutive day with intense downpours, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in many parts of the city, Times Now reported.
The weather department has also issued a high tide warning, which is expected to go up to 4.57 metres today at 11.57 am. However, officials have assured the public that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic, unlike the devastating floods that hit the city on July 26, 2005.
Since early Wednesday morning, the city has been experiencing continuous rainfall. Waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, with the Andheri subway among the worst affected. The subway had to be closed for a while, and traffic was rerouted to ease congestion.

Although the city saw some incidents like trees falling and minor short circuits due to the weather, there have been no reports of serious injuries or fatalities so far, according to a report by NDTV.
The IMD has forecast more heavy rain through July 24, accompanied by strong winds that may reach up to 50 km/h. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert, particularly those living in low-lying or landslide-prone areas.
To manage the situation, control rooms in every ward are on high alert, and dewatering pumps have been stationed in flood-prone zones. The BMC, along with Mumbai Traffic Police, is actively monitoring the developments and ensuring quick response in affected areas, the NDTV report said.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a red alert for Thursday in the coastal districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, predicting extremely heavy rainfall at isolated spots. The alert continues for Raigad and Ratnagiri on Friday.
Red alerts have also been declared for the ghat regions of Satara, Pune, and Kolhapur on Thursday, with Satara and Pune remaining under alert on Friday as well.
