Mumbai Rains Live Updates: Mumbai, Thane, Raigad to experience moderate to heavy rainfall in next 3-4 hours

After significant rainfall in their catchment areas, the water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have recorded a surge. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data on Wednesday, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 50.75 per cent or 7,34,562 million litres, Mid-day reported.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast "above normal" rainfall in July, exceeding 106% of the long-period average (LPA), across Maharashtra.

Following the prediction of heavy rainfall across Mumbai on Saturday, residents in low-lying areas are advised to be prepared for potential waterlogging.

In Mumbai, heavy rainfall is expected on Saturday, with clouds predominantly covering the skies. A rain alert is in effect for July 6, as heavy rains are likely on Sunday.

The IMD has predicted that there are no warnings of heavy rain in Mumbai for Friday. As per a report by Republic, the sky is expected to be cloudy, with light to moderate rain anticipated.

Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar are set to witness significant rainfall in the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Thursday and then between Saturday and Sunday.

Mumbai woke up to a cloudy sky on Thursday, with moderate to heavy rainfall lashing isolated areas across the city. While the rain caused distress among commuters, some were seen enjoying the rain in parts of the city.

Mumbai has recorded 23% more rainfall than its average seasonal rainfall since the monsoon began. The monsoon arrived early this year, on May 26, and has already brought significant rainfall.

The IMD has placed Mumbai, Thane and Palghar under yellow alert from July 5 to 7, while Raigad and Ratnagiri are under orange alert from July 3 to 7. The Konkan region is expected to receive heavy rainfall this week.

From June 1 to July 3 morning, Mumbai's Colaba observatory has recorded 652 mm rainfall, which in the same period last year was 545 mm. Meanwhile, the Santacruz observatory has recorded 558.9 mm rainfall, which last year was 408.5 mm.

Following heavy rains in Maharashtra, authorities are on standby and have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak rain hours.

Emergency services and disaster response teams have been deployed in flood-prone areas across Maharashtra to assist affected residents in the state.

Heavy rainfall has caused multiple rivers in Maharashtra to overflow their banks, prompting authorities to place residents living along the affected areas on high alert.

On Thursday and Friday, Mumbai, along with the adjoining districts of Thane and Palghar, is expected to see widespread rainfall. These regions are also under a yellow alert, which signifies the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places.

The intense rainfall has severely disrupted daily life in the Sindhudurg district. Several key roads have been inundated, prompting authorities to close them to traffic as a safety measure.

Sindhudurg district has experienced torrential rains, with an average of 139.87 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Kankavli received the highest rainfall at 220 mm.

Flood warnings and alerts have been issued for the Konkan and Ghat regions of Maharashtra. An orange alert is in place for the region, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. The Konkan region includes districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

The India Meteorological Department has said that Maharashtra is expected to witness widespread above-normal rainfall in July. The forecast is part of the IMD's Monthly Outlook for Rainfall and Temperature report, which was released on June 30.

Despite an early monsoon onset and heavy rainfall in May, India Meteorological Department (IMD) data shows that between June 1 and 30, the Santacruz observatory logged 512 mm rain, which is 24.4 mm less than normal. This is at least four per cent lower than its average quota for June, which stands at 537 mm.

In Maharashtra, rainfall intensity continues to remain strong in the Konkan and Ghat areas, leading to an orange alert being issued for these regions.

A 24-year-old man allegedly attacked another man with a sharp weapon over suspicion that the latter was having an affair with his wife, and then surrendered before police in Mumbai, an official said on Thursday. The victim suffered serious injuries in the incident which took place on Wednesday evening in Wadala (East) area. The accused, Junaid Khan alias China, had a suspicion that the victim was having an affair with his wife, the official said.

The coastal districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri have been placed under an orange alert till July 6. These areas could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable zones. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.

As per IMD, in central Maharashtra, including Pune, Kolhapur, and Nashik, a yellow alert remains in place. These areas may experience intermittent heavy showers, mostly in the afternoons and evenings.

The Konkan coast, central Maharashtra, and parts of Vidarbha are also expected to receive rainfall, with varying intensity over this week, the IMD said. In coastal districts like Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, the IMD has issued an orange alert.
