Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 services temporarily modified; single-line operations introduced amid operational adjustment

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) on Wednesday announced temporary modifications to services on Metro Lines 2A and 7, including single-line operations in some sections, due to an unspecified operational adjustment, effective immediately and until further notice.

According to the official update, on Line 2A, trains will continue to operate between Andheri West and Dahisar East in both directions.

Short Loop Service Trains will run between Gundavali and Aarey, while single-line operations will be in place between Ovaripada and Aarey in both directions. Commuters are advised to stay updated for further information on when full services will resume.

“We appreciate your cooperation. Passenger safety and convenience remain our top priority," the official statement reads. Commuters will be informed when the services resume.

In a notice posted on X (formerly Twitter), the corporation stated, “Due to an operational adjustment, services have been temporarily modified.”

This step follows a similar temporary suspension of Monorail services by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) last week.

During that suspension, the Monorail fleet is being upgraded, including improvements to the CBTC signalling system and refurbishment of existing rakes to enhance reliability and safety.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, clarified that such temporary halts are part of planned efforts to rejuvenate public transport systems.

“This temporary block is a carefully thought-out step to rejuvenate the Monorail. By introducing new rakes, deploying advanced CBTC signalling, and refurbishing the existing fleet, we are ensuring the system becomes safer, more dependable, and future-ready. We appreciate the patience of citizens and assure them that when services resume, they will be stronger, reliable, and ready to serve Mumbai better,” he was quoted by PTI as saying.

Commuters using Lines 2A and 7 are advised to plan alternative routes until normal metro services are restored, and to follow official updates from MMMOCL for the latest information.
