A 42-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son were found brutally murdered in their Lajpat Nagar-I home in Delhi on Wednesday night, with police arresting their domestic help who allegedly slit their throats in a fit of rage after being scolded.

According to a report by NDTV, the grisly discovery was made by Ruchika Sewani’s husband, Kuldeep, when he returned home around 9.30 pm to find the door locked from inside and bloodstains near the gate and staircase. After failing to get a response from his wife or son, Krish, he alerted the police, who forced entry into the house. Ruchika and her husband Kuldeep used to run a garment shop in the Lajpat Nagar market.

Inside, officers found Ruchika’s body lying near the bed, her shirt soaked in blood, while Krish, a Class 10 student, lay lifeless in the bathroom, both with fatal neck injuries.

The prime suspect, 24-year-old Mukesh, a driver and helper at the Sewanis’ garment shop, was apprehended while attempting to flee the city. Hailing from Hajipur, Bihar, Mukesh had been employed by the family for several months and reportedly had access to their home, as per NDTV.

During interrogation, Mukesh allegedly confessed to the murders, claiming he acted after Ruchika scolded him, though police are still probing whether the attack was premeditated.

Forensic teams have collected evidence and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning neighbours and shop staff for further leads.
