Heavy rain lashed more than 26 districts in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, including Satna, Rewa, Dindori, and Mauganj, leading to a flood-like situation, Bhaskar English reported.
In Shahdol district, tragedy struck when two labourers lost their lives after soil caved in during sewer line digging work. In Bhopal, intense rainfall caused major waterlogging. A section of road near the Board Office intersection caved in, forming a massive pothole above a sewage line.
In another incident, a policeman in Harda narrowly escaped after his car was swept away by the rising Matkuli river. In Satna, a youth attempting to cross a submerged bridge had his car swept away by strong currents. Luckily, he was rescued by locals.

In Mauganj’s Nai Garhi town, water entered several homes, forcing residents to shift to safer places. Even the police station there was submerged. The famous Gupt Godavari cave in Chitrakoot was also flooded and closed to tourists.
Schools closed, exams postponed
As per Bhaskar English, schools in four districts, Rewa, Satna, Dindori, and Mauganj, were ordered to remain closed on Friday due to the worsening weather.
In Dindori and Mauganj, schools had already been shut on Thursday due to excessive rainfall. In Satna, the Government Autonomous College postponed exams scheduled for July 17, 18, and 19, considering student safety.
IMD issues heavy rainfall alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a very heavy rainfall alert for seven districts in the Gwalior-Chambal region on Friday, which includes Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Datia, and Ashok Nagar. Flash flood warnings have been sounded for parts of Chhatarpur, Damoh, Katni, Panna, Sagar, Satna, Tikamgarh, and others.
Madhya Pradesh has already received 19.2 inches of rainfall this monsoon, which is 7.7 inches more than the average of 11.5 inches usually expected by mid-July.
As heavy rainfall continues, water levels in the state’s 54 large dams are rising fast. Major dams like Bansagar, Bargi, Tawa, Rajghat, Gandhi Sagar, Omkareshwar, and Indira Sagar have recorded a strong inflow of water.
Bhopal's Upper Lake has also received good water inflow. Once water level rises by 6.5 feet, the lake will overflow, and then Bhadbhada dam gates will need to be opened, the report said.
