In a bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh, a monkey snatched a bag containing Rs 80,000 from a moped at a government office, triggering a chaotic scramble for cash as the animal hurled banknotes from a tree.

The extraordinary event, captured on video, occurred at the Bidhuna tehsil office in Auraiya district, as per TOI report. Anuj Kumar and his father, Rohitash Chandra, had travelled from Dondapur village to complete a land registration matter. They had secured their cash in the vehicle’s storage compartment while attending to paperwork.

According to the TOI report, while Rohitash was consulting his lawyer, a monkey managed to pry open the moped’s trunk and absconded with the money bag. The animal then scaled a nearby tree and began tearing the notes, showering them onto the ground below.

The scene quickly descended into chaos as a crowd gathered, scrambling to collect the falling currency. The viral video shows people lunging and jostling to grab the scattered cash while the monkey continued its disruptive antics from above.

When order was finally restored, the family confronted a significant financial loss. As reported by TOI, Rohitash could only recover Rs 52,000 of the original sum. The remaining Rs 28,000 is believed to have either been pocketed by members of the public during the frenzy or destroyed by the monkey itself.

The incident is not an isolated one. Locals present at the scene were cited by TOI as saying that the tehsil compound has a long-standing problem with monkeys. One individual stated, “We cannot even eat food in the premises. If there’s the slightest mistake, monkeys immediately attack or snatch things away.”
