A bomb threat email sent on Tuesday triggered a major security alert at Fortis Hospital Mohali and three nearby schools, prompting swift action by Punjab Police and other security agencies.

The email warned of explosions at the hospital and at Shivalik Public School (Phase 6), Gyan Jyoti Public School (Phase 2), and The Millennium School (Phase 5).

The message was immediately shared with security authorities. Within minutes, police teams rushed to the locations and began safety checks to ensure there was no immediate danger.

High alert due to CM’s presence

Security was further tightened after officials confirmed that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is currently admitted to Fortis Hospital for medical treatment. Because of his presence, the hospital and surrounding areas were placed under high alert as a precaution.

According to a report by TOI, the threat email was sent in the name of a group calling itself the “Khalistan National Army.”

However, officials noted that similar threat messages received earlier in Mohali and Chandigarh later turned out to be hoaxes. A similar bomb threat was also reported on February 11.

Schools on edge amid board exams

The timing of the threat caused added concern as major examinations are currently underway. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is conducting Class 8 and Class 12 exams, while the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is holding the Class 10 examination.

Parents, students, and school staff were left anxious as police carried out checks at the school premises. Some parents rushed to schools to ensure their children’s safety, while authorities worked to manage panic and maintain order.

Police probe and public appeal

Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said that even if the threat appears non-credible, the police are not taking any chances. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams were deployed at the hospital and the schools. SP Dilpreet Singh said a thorough search operation is underway to rule out any danger.

Cyber teams have also been tasked with tracing the source of the email. DSP Harsimran Singh Bal urged people to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours while the investigation continues. Further updates are expected as verification and security checks proceed.
