After a spell of heavy rain lashed the national capital on Wednesday morning, Delhi’s Minto Bridge, the city’s most infamous flood-prone spot, saw smooth traffic movement despite rainfall. This railway underbridge, which is believed to be over 90 years old, has faced waterlogging since India's independence, Hindustan Times reported.
Notably, Minto Bridge, which lies at the key traffic junction of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and Swami Vivekananda Marg (formerly Minto Road), has become a symbol of Delhi’s poor monsoon infrastructure, with repeated incidents of vehicles getting stuck and even lives being lost during heavy rains.
This time, however, news agency ANI published a video on X that showed normal vehicular movement at the bridge with no waterlogging.

The underbridge leads to Connaught Place on one side and New Delhi railway station, Old Delhi, and Darya Ganj on the other, the report added. With its strategic position, it supports heavy vehicular movement every day.
According to the report, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Amit Malviya credited the change to the BJP government in Delhi. “Despite heavy rain, traffic moved smoothly at Minto Bridge, once the first to flood with even a drizzle. That’s the change Delhi is witnessing under the BJP government in just a few months!” Malviya tweeted.
Some viewers likened the occurrence to a miracle. While some praised Delhi CM Rekha Gupta-led BJP government for the change, others said smooth traffic and no waterlogging in one of Delhi’s busiest roads should be seen as normal and not newsworthy.

Minto bridge no longer a water trap? After heavy rain lashed Delhi on July 10, Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma took stock of the situation in the national capital. The minister visited the Minto Bridge underpass and shot a video himself to prove that it was clear of water this time.
In the video shared by his office, Minister Verma is seen at the site, with traffic flowing smoothly behind him. He says, "The monsoon is welcome in Delhi. It has been raining for the past hour, but there is no waterlogging at Minto Bridge - the same underpass where buses can be seen submerged every monsoon," Verma said.
