A 32-year-old private firm employee was arrested by Marathahalli police for allegedly molesting a woman twice outside the Eco World tech park in Devarabeesanahalli near Bellandur, Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Srikanth, a resident of Devarabeesanahalli who holds an MBA degree, works at a private firm in the city. The incident occurred on April 30, outside the main entrance of the Bellandur-based campus, raising concerns about safety in high-security office zones.
According to the complaint filed by the 20-year-old woman, Srikanth approached her from behind on a two-wheeler and struck her back before speeding off. Disturbingly, within minutes, he circled back, repeated the act more aggressively, and then stood at a distance observing her, as per her statement.
What has alarmed many is that the incident occurred in a zone considered to be under constant surveillance, with multiple CCTV cameras and security personnel deployed at regular intervals. Despite the presence of passersby and security infrastructure, no one intervened to assist the woman, the victim mentioned in her report.
The woman, a resident of Bhoganahalli, immediately reported the matter to the Marathahalli police. In response, special teams were formed to investigate and apprehend the accused. Srikanth was arrested after police traced him through local surveillance footage and inquiry.
A senior officer from the Whitefield division stated that investigators are currently looking into whether this was a one-off incident or part of a pattern of behaviour by the accused.
“We are verifying if this is an isolated incident or if the accused has a history of similar offences,” the senior officer was quoted by The New Indian Express.
