The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to heavy rainfall across several Kerala districts over the next few days, bringing relief from scorching temperatures but also raising concerns over flooding and power disruptions.
According to The Daily Jagran, the IMD’s Sunday bulletin highlighted thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph in parts of the state till Thursday. A yellow alert has been issued for districts including Kannur, Kasaragod, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad, with rainfall expected to intensify on Tuesday.
The showers are likely to lower temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, offering respite from the recent heat. However, the weather department warned of potential waterlogging, power cuts and flood-like situations, particularly in Wayanad. The Kerala government assured that preparations are in place to handle emergencies.
Coastal regions have been advised to exercise caution, with fishermen urged to avoid venturing into the Kerala-Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts until Thursday due to rough conditions, as per The Daily Jagran.
The IMD predicted rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand in the coming days. The weather department has also predicted light rainfall across multiple regions of the country over the next six days, from July 14 to 19.
Intermittent showers are expected in parts of West India, Central India, East India, South India, Northwest India and Northeast India, providing temporary relief from the summer heat. IMD has not issued any severe alerts for these regions but advises residents to stay updated on local forecasts.
