The wife of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash made a video call to a friend after killing her husband and said, “I have killed the monster”, police revealed on Monday.

According to the police, murder accused Pallavi allegedly threw chilli powder in Prakash’s eyes and fatally stabbed him at their residence in HSR Layout. Their daughter, Kriti, has also been taken into custody for questioning.

The Bengaluru Police registered an FIR against the wife and daughter based on Prakash's son Karthikesh's complaint. The son has alleged that his mother was struggling with severe mental health issues, and was responsible for the killing of the retired top cop.

The victim, 68-year-old Om Prakash, a former Director General and Inspector General of Police, was killed during a heated argument. Pallavi allegedly attacked him with a knife after momentarily blinding him with chilli powder, police said.

The murder reportedly took place on the ground floor of their three-storeyed home on Sunday. Prakash was found lying in a pool of blood when police arrived.

The Bengaluru police suspect the killing was the result of family tensions, including an ongoing dispute over property in Dandeli, Karnataka. The couple had frequent altercations, and Pallavi had previously approached the local police to file a complaint. When she felt her concerns were ignored, she allegedly staged a protest outside the HSR Layout police station.

Police also confirmed that Pallavi is undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and is currently on medication.

Om Prakash, a native of Champaran, Bihar, was a 1981-batch IPS officer who earned a Master’s degree in Geology before joining the Karnataka police force. Over the years, he served in key roles across Ballari, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, the Lokayukta, and the Fire and Emergency Services, before retiring as DGP & IGP in March 2017.

While no formal arrests have been made yet, the residence has been sealed off, and forensic teams are examining the scene. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the precise cause and extent of injuries.
