Kancha Gachibowli row: Spotted deer dies in stray dogs attack in University of Hyderabad campus

The incident occurred near a hostel on the South campus where the dogs attacked and injured the deer.

As the student called off the protests amid a huge row over the felling of trees in 400-acre land of Kancha Gachibowli, a spotted deer was killed after being attacked by stray dogs on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus on Friday.

The incident occurred near a hostel on the South campus where the dogs attacked and injured the deer, an official said, PTI reported.

The UoH's security personnel along with some students took the animal to a veterinary hospital. However, it was declared brought dead. There were dog bite marks on the deer, the official said.

According to a university source, in summer, every year, the deer venture near the buildings on the campus in search of water and food where the stray dogs attack them.

Students call off protests

The University of Hyderabad Students' Union (UoHSU) on Thursday called off an indefinite protest and boycott of classes against the Telangana government's plans to develop the 400-acre land parcel bordering the varsity land, after the Supreme Court stayed any future activity till further orders.

The UoHSU and other unions and parties aligned with it had launched an indefinite protest and announced a boycott of classes from April 1, against the state government's plan to develop the 400-acre land parcel in Kancha Gachibowli, citing ecological conservation concerns.

The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Telangana government to explain the "compelling urgency" for clearing a large tree cover on a land parcel next to University of Hyderabad, and stayed any future activity till further orders.
