Security has been tightened across Delhi ahead of the visit by United States Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, and their three children on Monday.
The US VP, with his family, is scheduled to arrive at the Palam airbase around 10 am for a four-day visit to India. During their stay in Delhi, they will be accommodated at a luxury hotel near Chanakyapuri and are expected to visit key cultural and religious sites, including the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the family for a formal meeting and dinner at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. Later that night, they are expected to depart for Jaipur and Agra.
According to the police, mock drills have been conducted in preparation for the high-profile visit, and a multi-layered security cover is being put in place. “All security protocols have been rehearsed and strict arrangements have been made across the city to ensure a smooth visit,” police said.
Security personnel from Delhi Police, along with armed forces and special units, will be stationed at the Palam airbase and along all routes to be used by the Vice President’s convoy. These areas will be under constant surveillance during the visit.
Traffic movement in several parts of Delhi will be restricted between 9 am and 9 pm on Monday. Key affected routes include Sardar Patel Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Dhaula Kuan flyover, NH-48, Cariappa Marg, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Vikas Marg, Janpath, Tolstoy Road, Sikandra Road, and the Noida Link Road.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory recommending alternative route for commuters. Travellers heading toward 11 Murti Marg are advised to use Vande Mataram Marg, Talkatora Road, and Sheikh Mujib-Ur-Rehman Marg. Those commuting between IGI Airport and Dhaula Kuan may take Rao Tula Ram Marg.
Security arrangements have also been completed at Akshardham Temple, where the premises have been inspected, and teams will be deployed during the visit.
