Hyderabad twin blasts: HC upholds death penalty for 5 Indian Mujahideen operatives

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday upheld the verdict of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) fast track court in the 2013 Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts case, confirming death penalty for five convicts.

The division bench of the court comprising Justice K Lakshman and Justice P Sree Sudha also dismissed the criminal appeals filed by the convicts.

In December 2016, five senior operatives of banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen were awarded death penalty by a special NIA court in the February 2013 Hyderabad blasts case. The five convicts were IM co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, Pakistani national Zia-ur-Rahman alias Waqas, Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, Tahaseen Akhtar alias Monu and Ajaz Shaikh.
