High alert as 3 Jaish terrorists enter Bihar via Nepal ahead of assembly polls

The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a high alert across the state after receiving intelligence inputs about the movement of Pakistan-based terrorists into Bihar on Thursday. Senior officials said that three suspected members of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have entered the state through the Nepal border, News18 reported.

The suspects have been identified as Hasnain Ali from Rawalpindi, Adil Hussain from Umerkot, and Mohammad Usman from Bahawalpur, according to information shared by the police. Their names, photographs, and passport details have been circulated to all border districts so that local authorities can verify and strengthen surveillance measures.

According to the intelligence reports, the three men had first reached Kathmandu in the second week of August. From there, they are believed to have crossed into Bihar during the third week of the month. With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, security agencies are particularly concerned about the possibility of a terror attack, and extra precautions are now being taken.

As per News18, the senior police officials have been briefed on the situation, and instructions have been issued to all district intelligence units to intensify monitoring, collect field inputs, and act promptly against any suspicious activity.

Authorities fear that the suspected terrorists may be planning to carry out a large-scale attack somewhere in the country, using Bihar as their entry point.

This is not an isolated case, as just three months ago, in May, 18 suspicious individuals crossed into Bihar within just 20 days. Among them, one person was later identified as a Khalistani operative and was arrested.

Notably, Bihar shares a 729-kilometre-long open border with Nepal, which makes it an easy infiltration route. Seven districts in Bihar lie directly along this frontier, making round-the-clock monitoring extremely difficult. Also, the Bangladesh border is only about 20 km away from Kishanganj district.

In Bihar, the SSB is responsible for guarding the Nepal border. However, because the frontier is porous and open, infiltration attempts remain a continuous threat for security agencies.
