Gujarat currently has 34 active Covid-19 cases, out of which only 2 have been hospitalised. 32 of these patients are in Ahmedabad City, while one is in rural Ahmedabad and one is in Rajkot, Additional Director of Public Health for Gujarat, Nilam Patel said.
Reports said that all of these 34 patients have been diagnosed in the past one week, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials. The officials said that these patients were suffering from fever, cough and other mild symptoms. Mild symptoms are why the other 32 patients have been advised to stay in home isolation.
According to The Indian Express, only one of the 34 COVID-19 patients has an international travel history - to Singapore. None of the family members of the infected patients have contracted Covid-19 so far.
Covid-19 in India
India is witnessing a modest uptick in COVID-19 cases, though the overall situation remains under control. Health authorities reported 257 active cases nationwide, with the majority concentrated in Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu . This increase is attributed to the emergence of Omicron subvariants, particularly JN.1 and its descendants LF.7 and NB.1.8, which are known for their heightened transmissibility and ability to evade immunity.
Despite the rise in cases, health officials emphasised that the current variants are causing mild symptoms, and there is no cause for panic. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has convened review meetings with experts to monitor the situation closely. Public health advisories continue to stress the importance of vaccination, mask-wearing in crowded places, and adherence to hygiene protocols.
