Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Patna businessman Gopal Khemka, India Today reported. The accused was identified as Ashok Saw, a trader.
As per the report, Saw is believed to have orchestrated Khemka’s killing by arranging a contract worth Rs 10 lakh.
According to the police, out of the total contract amount, shooter Umesh Yadav, who is currently in police custody, received Rs 1 lakh in advance for the murder of the businessman. As per the report, the police recovered a motorcycle and a pistol used in the murder, 80 live cartridges, two mobile phones, and Rs 1 lakh in cash from Umesh’s possession.
After executing the crime, Umesh took shelter for some time at Udaygiri Apartment, allegedly owned by another prominent businessman in Patna. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the apartment on Monday night and detained this businessman for questioning, the report added.
On Sunday, Patna Police detained more than a dozen suspects in connection with the murder of Gopal Khemka, who was shot dead outside his residence near Gandhi Maidan around 11.40 pm on July 4.
As per the report, the police are suspecting the involvement of jailed gangster Ajay Verma in Khemka’s killing. Police also suspect that the murder was linked to a land dispute.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Vikas, alias Raja, another key accused who had allegedly supplied the murder weapon, was killed in an encounter with police in Patna City’s Mal Salami area, the report added.
