A 24-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly spitting while applying cream on a customer's face at a salon in Ghaziabad.

The incident came to light after the video showing the man squeezing cream into his palm, then spitting on it before applying it to the customer’s face, went viral on social media.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad, Priyashri Pal, said that the 23-second video was likely recorded by a colleague or another customer at the salon named Level Up, located in Wave City, Sector 5 of Ghaziabad.

After the video surfaced, a complaint was filed at the Wave City police station. An FIR was registered under sections 271 and 272 of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with negligent and malignant acts likely to spread infections dangerous to life, The Times of India reported.

According to the ACP, the officials reviewed the footage to identify the salon and trace the accused. They arrested Arshad Ali, a resident of Aslam Colony in Dasna, on Sunday night. Ali had been working at the salon for only a week before the incident occurred.

A similar incident was reported in Lucknow earlier in June 2024. A salon worker was caught on CCTV spitting on a customer’s face while giving a massage. The customer noticed the act after watching the footage and filed a complaint at Sushant Golf City police station. The police registered a case and arrested the accused based on the complaint.
