A 44-year-old man unleashed his German Shepherd on a team of power department officials and police personnel who had come to collect outstanding electricity dues in Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar area. The incident occurred around 11:15 am on Sunday at a house located on Pipeline Road, The Times of India reported.
The enforcement team, led by Officer Manu Kumari, was acting on the orders of executive engineer Durgesh Kumar. Accompanied by junior engineer Sanjay Kumar and a police escort, the team arrived at the house to conduct a routine inspection after the homeowner had allegedly stopped paying electricity bills.
"When we arrived and explained the purpose of our visit, Rashid, who opened the gate, became hostile. Despite our repeated requests to enter the premises for inspection, he released his German Shepherd on us," TOI quoted Manu Kumari as saying.
The dog attacked Constable Amar Singh, ripping his uniform and damaging his mobile phone in the process, according to the TOI report.
As the situation escalated, Javed, the house owner and Rashid's landlord, also arrived and allegedly misbehaved with the officials. Constable Amar Singh, who suffered multiple injuries, was rushed to the Muradnagar community health centre by his colleague Mohit Kumar and lineman Shanu. Doctors have confirmed that he is out of danger.
DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said that Rashid has been arrested, and a case has been filed. “Efforts are underway to trace Javed, who is currently absconding. Multiple police teams have been deployed to locate him,” he was quoted by TOI as saying.
