A bank manager was shot dead by a security guard at a Punjab & Sind Bank branch in Ghaziabad on Monday afternoon, allegedly following an argument over leave and salary issues. The incident took place at the bank’s branch in Balram Nagar Colony in the Loni Border area, The Times of India reported.

The victim, Abhishek Kumar (36), was sitting in his cabin when the guard, Ravindra Hudda (45), allegedly returned after the argument with his licensed gun and opened fire. The shooting happened around 1.30 pm, police was quoted by TOI as saying.

Kumar was immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi for treatment, but he died during treatment. His family members, who live in Patna, were informed about the incident soon after.

According to police, as quoted by TOI, Kumar had been working as the manager of the branch since August 2025. The accused, Hudda, is a resident of Baghpat and had retired from the Army in 2018. He had been working as a security guard at the bank for the past three months.

Police said Hudda did not report to work on Monday, which led Kumar to call him several times. During the phone conversation, the two allegedly had a heated argument.

Around 1.15 pm, Hudda arrived at the bank on a motorcycle along with an associate, identified as Shishpal Dheemer. He went directly to the manager’s cabin, where another argument broke out between the two.

According to Surendra Nath Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural), Hudda told the manager that he no longer wanted to continue working at the bank. “He then went to another room in the building, collected his licensed gun, and returned to the cabin, where he allegedly shot Kumar while he was seated,” Tiwari was quoted by TOI as saying.

At the time of the incident, more than 10 customers and seven bank employees were inside the branch. However, no one intervened during the shooting, as per the report.

CCTV footage from the bank shows Hudda, wearing a yellow T-shirt, leaving the branch with the gun after the incident. His associate was allegedly sitting outside the manager’s cabin.

During questioning, some bank employees told police that Hudda often skipped work without informing his seniors and would argue with colleagues who questioned him, TOI reported.

Police was quoted by TOI saying that Hudda later told the cops that he was upset with the manager’s behaviour. He claimed Kumar often scolded him for taking leave and deducted between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000 from his monthly salary of Rs 12,000.

About three hours after the shooting, police found Hudda drinking outside a liquor shop in the Loni Border area and arrested him. The gun used in the crime and the motorcycle were also seized.

Police have registered a case of murder against the accused and further investigation is underway.
