‘Gave top model car, fulfilled all demands': Brother of Noida woman burned alive over dowry

The victim, identified as Nikki, was married to Vipin in 2016 and lived with him and their son in Sirsa village under Kasna police station limits.

“We gave them everything, even a top model Scorpio car, yet they killed my sister,” said Rohit, brother of Nikki, who was allegedly set on fire by her husband and in-laws in Greater Noida for dowry.

Speaking to News18, Rohit said all demands were met during Nikki’s marriage to Vipin in 2016. “We had gifted a top model of the Scorpio car at the wedding, along with all the daily-use items,” he said.

He alleged that both his brothers-in-law, Nikki’s husband, Vipin, and her elder sister Kanchan’s husband, were regularly torturing the sisters for dowry. “The younger one was more cruel. This had been going on for a long time; their demands were increasing day by day after the marriage,” Rohit told News18.

He further claimed both men were also having extramarital affairs. “It is very much clear in the now viral video how my sisters were tortured for dowry demands,” he added.

Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, said both sisters were being tortured for Rs 36 lakh. “The torture began just six months after Nikki’s wedding,” she said.

According to Kanchan, Nikki was brutally thrashed on Thursday night before being set ablaze in front of her son. “That same evening, they brutally assaulted my sister in front of me and the children. They then threw some liquid on her and set her ablaze in front of my eyes,” she alleged.

Videos circulating online show Nikki being dragged by her hair by Vipin and another woman. Vipin, shirtless, appears to have blood stains on his stomach and back. Other clips show Nikki limping down the stairs while on fire, then sitting on the floor with severe burns. In one frame, someone throws water on her, apparently to soothe her injuries.

Greater Noida Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar said police were informed on Thursday night by a hospital that a woman with burn injuries had been admitted and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. “The woman died on the way to Safdarjung Hospital. A post-mortem was conducted. Based on her sister’s complaint, a case has been registered. The husband, Vipin, has been arrested,” he told News18.

Police have launched a search for the woman’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, all named in the case.
