The Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway, a 56-kilometer, six-lane route, which will link Faridabad in Haryana to Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, has finally been approved by the Haryana government after two decades.
Originally proposed by the Noida Authority, construction had only progressed in Uttar Pradesh, while Haryana had delayed its approval until now.
As part of the expressway project, a 600-meter bridge will be built over the Yamuna River near Lalpur village. The cost of the bridge will be equally divided, with both the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments each responsible for 50 per cent of the expenses. The two state governments have developed a joint strategy to streamline travel between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Key features of the FNG Expressway
The expressway will stretch across 56 kilometres and is designed as a six-lane road, with the potential for expansion to eight lanes if necessary. The estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs 633 crore. The expressway, connecting Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Faridabad, is expected to be completed by 2027.
The expressway will also have multi-level interchanges and flyovers at key locations to ensure smooth traffic flow. Paved shoulders, or slightly narrower lanes, will be provided on both sides of the expressway to assist in case of vehicle breakdowns and emergencies.
A wide median will separate traffic travelling in opposite directions, reducing the risk of accidents, while a comprehensive drainage system will prevent flooding during heavy rainfall. The expressway will also be equipped with required safety features such as guardrails, emergency call boxes, and clear signage for enhanced security and convenience.
Currently, commuters travelling between Faridabad and Noida have to take longer routes through Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, resulting in traffic congestion and extended travel times. The expressway, strategically positioned to serve as a vital arterial road, will offer a direct route, alleviating traffic pressure and ensuring a smoother daily commute for thousands of people.
