The accident occurred at 7.45 am on Sunday when a black Mahindra Scorpio, driven by Kritika Garg, struck the stationary police van. Traffic Constable Deepak, who later filed a complaint, said their interceptor vehicle, a Maruti Ertiga, was parked correctly on the roadside. With him were Assistant Sub Inspector Narendra and Home Guard Deepak, according to a TOI report.
The Scorpio allegedly hit their vehicle from behind at high speed. The impact of the collision was so strong that Home Guard Deepak was flung off the bridge. The SUV’s tyre burst during the crash, which caused it to stop nearby. Kritika gave her name and address to the police at the spot. Equipment inside the interceptor vehicle, including a speed monitoring machine, laser DVR, battery monitor, camera, printer, and LED screen, was badly damaged.
Constable Deepak and Home Guard Deepak suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Sarvodaya Hospital. The home guard was later shifted to the ICU as his condition was critical. Doctors have said he is not fit to give a statement yet.
Police said the accident was caused by Kritika's rash and fast driving. An FIR was registered at BPTP police station under several sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including rash driving, negligence causing injury, damage to public property, and stopping a government official from doing their duty.
“The accused, Kritika Garg, stays in Sector 28 in Faridabad and was driving at over 100 km per hour when she lost control and hit the home guard. Constable Deepak also sustained injuries but is stable, while ASI Narender was treated for minor bruises. The accused was returning from a gaming parlour in Sector 12 and heading to Sector 86 with four of her friends on a joyride of sorts to celebrate clearing their Class 12 exams,” The Indian Express quoted Station House Officer Inspector Arvind Kumar as saying.
He added that she was released on station bail, and the car was registered in the name of her father, Manoj Kumar.
