A suspended constable accused of raping a minor in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district has been arrested in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. Police said he was disguised in a burqa and wearing lipstick to appear as a woman when he was detained.

According to a report by NDTV, the accused, Rambharose, alias Rajendra Sisodia, allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl on December 15.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Sangwan was quoted by the news channel as saying that Sisodia lured the teenager and her brother to his house with the promise of a job. He then sent the brother to the market and assaulted the girl. When the victim screamed, neighbours rushed to the scene; however, despite a large public protest, the accused managed to flee, the report added.

To avoid arrest, Sisodia kept changing his appearance. Although police tracked him to Agra, Lucknow and Gwalior, he continued to stay a step ahead of them.

"The criminal was changing his appearance constantly," the SP said, noting that the accused would alternate between wearing tracksuits or jackets to pose as a VIP or high-ranking police officer.

After an extensive manhunt, he was eventually arrested in Vrindavan. The accused had earlier been dismissed from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) in connection with a previous POCSO case and also faces several other allegations of harassment against women.
