A 65-year-old woman named Razia was brutally killed by her youngest son in Nuh district, allegedly after she refused to give him Rs 20, The Times of India reported.
According to the police, the murder took place on Sunday morning. The accused, 22-year-old Jamshed, had a history of drug addiction and violent behaviour. He lived with his mother and other family members in a makeshift camp, where they had been residing for the last 20 years. The family, originally from Assam, earned their living by collecting and selling scrap.
According to a neighbour, Jamshed had come home late on the night of July 19 and asked his mother for Rs 20. When Razia explained that she did not have change and only had a Rs 500 note, and promised to give him the money the next morning, he lost his temper. In a fit of rage, he first attacked her with a brick, injuring her. He then used an axe to slash her throat, killing her on the spot. After the attack, Jamshed fled the scene.
Neighbours and relatives said Jamshed had been struggling with drug addiction for years. "He was doing drugs day and night. He always used to fight with his family for money," TOI quoted a neighbour as saying.
"A case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's elder son. We are investigating the matter. The statements of the family have been recorded," a police officer was quoted by TOI as saying.
