The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain along with thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi and NCR on Tuesday. During these storms, the city may also experience strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, and in some cases, gusts may reach up to 50 kilometers per hour. The temperature is expected to remain around 32 degrees Celsius.
Delhi experienced cooler-than-usual weather on Monday. The maximum temperature recorded was 32.3 degrees Celsius, which is about seven degrees lower than the normal temperature for this time of year. The minimum temperature was also slightly below average at 23.2 degrees Celsius. The humidity in the city varied between 63 per cent and 57 per cent during the day.
This drop in temperature is expected to continue for a few more days, providing relief from the usual heat in the month of May. According to IMD, rain, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies are likely to persist until at least May 7. Strong winds are expected to continue until May 6. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to stay between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius.
The air quality in Delhi has also improved. The Air Quality Index (AQI) on Tuesday was recorded at 120, which falls in the 'moderate' category. On Monday, the AQI was 164. Other parts of Delhi-NCR also reported better air quality. The AQI in Noida was 89, in Greater Noida it was 84, and in Ghaziabad, it dropped to 79, all of which fall in the 'satisfactory' range. However, Gurugram still had poor air quality, with an AQI of 248.
The IMD has also predicted that light to moderate rain is likely in many parts of North India, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, from May 6 to May 11.
