The National Capital is expected to see light rain today accompanied by thunderstorms, lighting, and strong surface winds. Wind speeds may temporarily rise to 30–40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph during the thunderstorm.
These weather conditions are likely to offer some kind of relief from the prevailing heat. The weather department has issued a 'Yellow' alert for today and tomorrow.
"Rainfall activities will reduce in Northern India especially in plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi but these places will continue to get monsoon like highly isolated varying intensity rains during next 2 days. Few large scattered spells with hail, thunder and winds are expected and their development will be random."
On Sunday, the national capital recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius, which is 3.3 degrees below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was 24.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below the season's average. The humidity ranged from 75% to 41%.
The weather department predicts a thunderstorm with rain on Monday, with temperatures expected to reach around 34 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
On Friday, Delhi experienced significant rainfall, with the Safdarjung weather station recording 77 mm in just six hours, marking the second-highest 24-hour rainfall for May since 1901.
Currently, the city's air quality is in the 'poor' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 232 at 4 pm. According to the CPCB, an AQI reading between 201 and 300 is considered 'poor'.
