Delhi's per capita income at current prices is likely to reach Rs 5,31,610 as per Advance Estimate, registering a growth of 7.92 per cent over 2024-25, according to the Economic Survey of 2025-26 tabled in the Delhi Assembly by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday.
The Delhi Budget 2026-27 will be presented on Tuesday.
According to the Economic Survey of Delhi, this figure places Delhi's per capita income at approximately 2.5 times higher than the national average for the same period.
As per the report, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Delhi at current prices during 2025-26 is likely to attain a level of Rs 13,27,055 crore as per advance estimate, registering a growth of 9.42 per cent over FY25.
The government has also estimated a revenue surplus of Rs 9,661.31 crore for the same period, which is about 0.73 per cent of the GSDP, PTI reported.
Tax collections are also expected to increase. The report projects a growth of 15.54 per cent in tax revenue for 2025-26 compared to the previous year. This rise is seen as a sign of improving economic activity and better compliance.
The Budget of 2025-26 was Rs 1,00,000 crore, of which Rs 59,300 crore is allocated for Delhi government schemes, programme and projects. The amount was higher by Rs 20,300 crore in comparison to Rs 39,000 crore in 2024-25 (BE).
The transport sector received the largest portion of this funding at 20 per cent, followed by social security and welfare at 17 per cent, and water supply and sanitation at 15 per cent, according to a report by ANI.
In terms of infrastructure, the peak demand for power in the city rose to 8,442 MW in 2025-26, up from 5,846 MW a decade ago. Total installed capacity of renewable energy reached 509 MW by January 2026, comprising solar energy and waste-to-energy generation, as per the ANI report.
Within the secondary sector, manufacturing was the major contributor, with Gross State Value Added estimated at Rs 50,144 crore for the current year. However, industrial workers faced rising costs as the annual average consumer price index increased from 132.5 in 2024 to 139.4 in 2025, a rise of 4.9 per cent.
Health infrastructure also saw expansion, with the number of beds in government hospitals rising to 15,659 by December 2025. The survey noted that beds per 1000 persons increased to 2.84 in 2025-26, ANI reported.
Growth divide in state economies
Data from the RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States released in December 2025, cited by CNBC, showed a clear gap between states with the highest total economic output and those leading in per capita income.
Maharashtra had topped the GSDP list with Rs 45.3 lakh crore, followed by Tamil Nadu at Rs 31.1 lakh crore. Uttar Pradesh, with Rs 29.7 lakh crore, had ranked above Karnataka’s Rs 28.8 lakh crore, but its per capita income had remained low at Rs 1.08 lakh.
In contrast, Delhi had led in per capita NSDP at Rs 4.93 lakh. It had been followed by Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, showing that smaller economies could still perform strongly on income per person.
