A six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three boys in Bhajanpura, northeast Delhi, on January 18, police said on Tuesday. The accused boys are aged 10, 13, and 14. Two of them have been apprehended, while the third boy and his family remain missing.
The girl, who lives with her parents and three siblings, is now stable and recovering at home, according to officials. Her family reported the shocking incident to the police immediately after discovering what had happened.
The victim’s mother said the girl returned home around 7 pm on January 18, bleeding heavily, initially claiming she had fallen. “She was unconscious. I poured water on her face to wake her up. When I asked what happened, she said she fell. Then our next-door neighbour, a 13-year-old boy, said the same story,” victim’s mother was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
After repeated questioning, the child revealed that the 13-year-old neighbour and two other boys known to the family had lured her with the promise of food. “My husband had dropped her at the entrance of our lane after buying candy. The boys caught her there and offered chowmein. They took her to a nearby empty two-storey building, tied her hands, and gagged her mouth,” the mother said.
A police officer confirmed that the girl also shared these details during questioning. The boys allegedly threatened her to keep silent.
The family immediately reported the incident to Jafrabad police station. The girl was treated at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where a medical report noted she was unable to walk and had severe bleeding. Tests for HIV and other conditions were advised.
The girl is currently bedridden. “It pains if she sits and she starts bleeding if she walks or plays,” her mother told HT. Police transferred the case to Bhajanpura Police Station. Investigators visited the building, found blood, and collected forensic evidence.
The 10- and 13-year-olds were apprehended on January 19 and presented before the Child Welfare Committee. The 14-year-old suspect and his family are still missing. The girl’s mother said all three boys were friends of her late 14-year-old son, who had passed away last year.
Her father, a rickshaw puller, demanded that the accused be tried as adults. “If they knew what they were doing, they should face strict punishment. They must not be released,” he said. The father added he has not returned to work due to fear for his daughters’ safety.
The case has also stirred local outrage. On Monday, right-wing groups blocked a road in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the third accused.
