Delhi executive raped during family holiday at Lansdowne resort

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her fiance’s cousin at a resort near Jaiharikhal in Lansdowne, according to a report by TOI. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, was reported days later via the 112 emergency helpline, prompting a police investigation.

The survivor, an executive from Delhi, was on a holiday with her 29-year-old fiance, a software engineer from Noida and his family members. The group included her fiance’s maternal uncle, one cousin and the accused -  another 24-year-old cousin who is a student.

As reported by TOI, the alleged assault took place around 8.30 pm. The woman stated that she had gone to a washroom when the accused followed her and raped her. The group had been celebrating in their room shortly before the fiance, the uncle and the other cousin left for dinner, inadvertently leaving the woman alone with the accused, explained Vinay Kumar, the station in-charge of Lansdowne police.

The accused fled the resort immediately after the incident and remains at large. Authorities are attempting to trace his movements using mobile phone tower data and CCTV footage from the resort.

An First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered at Lansdowne police station on Monday under section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "The accused is absconding and a team has been formed to trace and arrest him," stated Pauri Garhwal Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lokeshwar Singh, as per the TOI report.

The investigation is ongoing, with the fiance and other family members being questioned by police. A forensic team from Srinagar was summoned to collect evidence from the hotel room. Officials reportedly said that although the crime occurred in a revenue area, the Lansdowne police took charge of the case due to its sensitive nature. The local patwari (revenue officer) and tehsildar (executive magistrate) were also notified of the incident.
