A chilling picture of meticulous planning has emerged in the investigation of the daylight murder of dairy businessman Ratan in south Delhi, with police revealing the assailants conducted reconnaissance and waited at the scene for approximately half an hour before executing him.

The shooting, which occurred in Fatehpur Beri on Sunday, is now being probed as a premeditated attack potentially linked to an existing familial feud and a previous homicide. According to a TOI report, police sources indicate that 12 to 13 individuals are suspected of involvement in the killing.

Authorities are examining the possible role of a relative of a man who was allegedly killed by Ratan’s own son, Deepak, back in May. Deepak was subsequently arrested in connection with that earlier case. While police have stated they are exploring all angles, a senior officer confirmed the murder appears stemmed from a "personal rivalry."

The victim’s family has provided investigators with a harrowing account of the attack. They stated that Ratan was en route to his dairy in Aya Nagar when he was ambushed. The assailants, they claim, surrounded him and opened indiscriminate fire, discharging more than 70 rounds and leaving him no chance to escape.

“After the May incident, Ratan received regular death threats. On Sunday, he told me he was going to the dairy and within 10 minutes, he was brutally killed,” Ratan’s brother, Ram Kumar, was quoted as saying by TOI.

Another relative, Dharmender, underscored the calculated nature of the crime, stating that the attackers had arrived in a car and on a motorcycle and spent considerable time conducting reconnaissance of the area while waiting for their target.

The family has directly connected the killing to a protracted land dispute between two families, a conflict they believe escalated severely following Deepak’s alleged actions six months ago.

To date, no arrests have been made in connection with Sunday's murder. Delhi Police continue to pursue multiple lines of enquiry, with a focus on scrutinising CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify all individuals involved in what appears to have been a coldly orchestrated assassination.
