Several families in Nuh district's Hidayat Colony have temporarily moved out of their homes due to continuous visits by investigative teams probing the Delhi car blast case, Hindustan Times reported.
The prime accused, Dr Mohammad Umar Un Nabi, the suicide bomber in the November 10 Red Fort blast, stayed in a rented room there for about ten days before the explosion.
The frequent searches and questioning by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and local police in the narrow lane have created fear and a sense of "panic" among the local residents, leading 10 families to leave temporarily on Monday.
As per the report, the rented accommodation in Gurugram belonged to Afsana, who is currently in custody of the investigating agency. Her room was allegedly arranged for Dr Umar by Shoaib, nursing staff at Al-Falah University, who is also in police custody.
Ever since Dr. Umar’s link to the house emerged, teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA and Haryana Police have been conducting repeated inspections, questioning neighbours and sealing off the lane for evidence collection. Residents say the constant activity has left them with little choice but to leave.
“There were police teams coming every few hours, asking questions, checking the lane. We got scared. We have moved out to a relative’s place for now,” a resident told HT.
Another family, living two houses away from Afsana’s home, was quoted as saying that the continued presence of police personnel had disrupted their lives.
“Our children were terrified. People kept asking us what was happening. It became harassment for us. We will return only when things become normal again,” Ruksar said.
The lane, once lively with children and daily wage workers, has fallen unsettlingly silent as the investigation has intensified. Only a handful of shops at the far end are still open, while most homes stand locked. Officials maintain that the frequent visits are routine investigative procedure.
“Teams are conducting follow-up checks to verify leads and ensure no evidence is missed. Residents are being asked routine questions,” a senior police officer was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
