Flight operations at Delhi’s IGI Airport were severely affected on Monday morning due to dense fog, resulting in the cancellation of 128 flights. Of these, 64 were arriving flights and 64 were departures. In addition, eight flights were diverted to other airports as poor visibility continued to hamper safe operations.
More than 200 flights also faced delays, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.
Meanwhile, in a fresh travel advisory, IndiGo said foggy conditions were still persisting at Delhi and other northern airports, with visibility yet to improve fully. The airline warned that the impact on flight operations could extend until the noon hours, and delays may continue.
“Foggy conditions remain in place across Delhi and several airports in northern India, with visibility yet to improve fully. As a result, the earlier impact on flight movements is likely to extend into the noon hours, and some delays may continue,” the airline said.
Delhi Airport had issued a passenger advisory early Monday morning as dense fog continued to blanket the city since late Sunday evening, impacting flight operations.
The IGI Airport said flights are currently operating under CAT III conditions, an advanced instrument landing system that allows specially trained pilots and equipped aircraft to land during extremely low visibility. However, officials cautioned that delays and cancellations may still occur.
