A 40-year-old woman, Deepti Chaurasia, daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishore, the owner of Kamla Pasand and Rajshree Pan Masala, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday at her Vasant Vihar home in Delhi.

Police have recovered a diary in which she mentioned a dispute with her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia, ANI reported.

Deepti married Harpreet Chaurasia, Kamal Kishore’s son, in 2010, and the couple has a 14-year-old son.

According to a report by News18, Deepti may have taken the step because of Harpreet’s alleged second marriage. Several reports claim Harpreet recently married a South Indian film actress, though police have not confirmed this.

As per the police, Deepti was found hanging with a scarf inside the house. A case has been registered at the Vasant Vihar police station, and further investigation is underway.

Rishabh, brother of Deepti Chaurasia told media: "Her husband, Harpreet, had affairs. When we got to know about it, we took our daughter home... After that, her mother-in-law took her back. My sister used to call me and say that she was tortured and that her husband had affairs."

"I don't know whether my sister was killed or died by suicide. I spoke to her 2-3 days ago... I just want justice... My sister was married in 2010. His relations with her husband were not good. He used to physically assault her and abuse her," he added.

The Chaurasia family is well known in the pan masala business. Kamal Kishore and his father, Kamala Kant Chaurasia, founded the Kamla Pasand brand, which now operates across Kanpur, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

Kamala Kant began the business about four decades ago by selling loose pan masala from a small kiosk in Kanpur. Today, the company, run under the KP Group and Kamala Kant Company, has a turnover of billions of rupees.
