The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) conducted a raid on the premises of former Akali leader and prominent realtor Ranjit Singh Gill on Saturday, reported PTI. This action occurred just one day after Gill joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Gill was officially welcomed into the BJP by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at his residence on Friday evening.

VB officials raided Gill's residence in Chandigarh; however, no official statement has been released regarding the details of the raid.

Recently, Gill resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and was previously regarded as a close confidant of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. He had claimed that loyal party workers within the SAD were being sidelined in favour of outsiders gaining influence in the constituency.

Gill had also contested the Kharar Assembly seat in both the 2017 and 2022 Punjab Assembly elections but was unsuccessful on both occasions.

After joining the BJP, Gill expressed confidence in the party's policies and programs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
