In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a 50-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding pillion on was crushed between two vehicles in a high-speed collision on the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, an accident that was captured on a dashcam.

The deceased, identified as Shakir, a native of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to severe injuries at BK Civil Hospital in Faridabad on Tuesday. He had been admitted a day earlier after the two-wheeler he was travelling on was rammed from behind by a Toyota Innova near a CNG pump in Gwal Pahari.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the DLF Phase 1 police station, the accident occurred around 4.45 pm on Monday. Shakir’s brother, Mohammad Rashid (37), a painter by profession, stated that the duo was returning from work in DLF Phase III and heading towards Shakir’s rented accommodation in Faridabad’s Dabua Colony to break their Ramzan fast together.

Rashid recounted that while navigating heavy traffic congestion, he brought his motorcycle to a stop behind a Grand Vitara. Moments later, a white Toyota Innova, allegedly speeding, crashed into them from the rear. The force of the impact wedged the motorcycle between the SUV in front and the multi-purpose vehicle behind.

Both brothers were thrown off the bike and sustained injuries. While Rashid suffered a fractured leg, Shakir bore the brunt of the collision, suffering multiple fractures. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene. Rashid managed to note down the registration number of the offending Innova before a passing motorist helped him rush his brother to the hospital.

Rashid, who is recuperating in his native village in UP, was cited by TOI as recounting the harrowing moments leading up to the crash. He stated that after finishing their work, they were en route to Faridabad to observe the Ramzan fast together. He added that his elder brother, who bore the impact of the crash while seated behind him, sustained critical injuries to multiple bones. Shakir is survived by his wife and three children.

Police officials confirmed that the damaged motorcycle and the Innova have been seized. A site inspection was conducted and photographs of the scene were taken as part of the investigation. The authorities received confirmation of Shakir’s death from the hospital on Tuesday.

Based on Rashid’s complaint and medical reports, an FIR has been registered against the Innova driver under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the DLF Phase 1 police station. The vehicle has been reportedly taken into custody and a notice would be issued to its owner as the investigation continues.
