Tensions erupted at the Dadar Kabutarkhana in Mumbai on Wednesday after members of the Jain community took to the streets and attempted to forcibly remove a cover placed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to restrict pigeon feeding at the site, The Times of India reported.
The BMC had installed the cover over the weekend as a public health measure to curb respiratory illnesses. However, the move has now spiralled into street-level protests, court battles, and political accusations.

As per the report, a heavy police bandobast was deployed at the location as dozens of community members gathered in protest against the BMC. Many were seen pushing against bamboos erected and trying to lift the plastic sheets and netting covering the central feeding zone.
The shed was partially ripped open before police intervened to maintain order, the report added. The protest follows days of discontent within the Jain and Gujarati communities, who argue that feeding pigeons is a matter of compassion and tradition.
