In view of Cyclone Montha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘cyclone warning’ for Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and South Odisha coast.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Dr M Mohapatra, the Director General of Meteorology at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in an evening briefing, said Central and North Andhra Pradesh will experience highest cyclonic wind speeds, in the range of 92-117 kmph.
Meanwhile, South Odisha, South Chhattisgarh and parts in East Telangana will face wind speed of 60-70 kmph, gusting to 80 kmph, from evening till the early hours of Wednesday. Mohapatra was quoted by the IE as saying that several states in East and Peninsular India will experience heavy rainfall till the month end.
Heavy rain alert for Andhra Pradesh
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at several places, with isolated areas in Andhra Pradesh expected to experience extremely heavy rain till Wednesday, the report added. The intensity is forecast to gradually decrease, though heavy rain may persist at isolated locations over north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
Heavy rain alert for Odisha
According to the report, South Odisha is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places, with extremely heavy rain at isolated locations. In north Odisha, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places till Wednesday.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a review of cyclone preparedness on Tuesday. He directed railways to take precautionary measures in anticipation of Cyclone Montha’s impact on the East Coast, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana.
